Local NYC-area support groups and social activities for adults on the autism spectrum
Currently, the organized autistic adult community in the NYC metro area consists of groups that will be listed on the following pages:
-
Autistic peer-led groups led or facilitated by members of the Autistic Peer Leadership Group (APLeG)
-
Other autistic peer-led support groups and social activities
The listings on the last two pages above are not complete. More groups will be added as I track them down and/or verify the info I have about them.
It is my hope that there will eventually be many more (and more specialized) groups. (See Longterm visions.) I plan to be involved in creating an online platform that will make it easier for groups of autisitc people to organize.
Note: This website will not list groups that exist solely on Facebook, nor groups that use Facebook as their sole means of contact with prospective members. Ditto for any other online platform whose terms of service require people to use their legal names, thereby making it impossible for people to protect their anonymity without violating the terms of service. (Not all online platforms require legal names. Meetup, for example, doesn't care what name you use as long as you aren't impersonating someone else.)
Unless otherwise indicated, groups listed on the above pages are not affiliated with this website.
